If you sign up to the youth service programme or activities your membership card can also be used as a c-card. Sexual health drop-in services are on offer at a number of youth centres across the borough.

Unique is a project aimed at the LGBTQ community. Sexuality and your body can be a confusing thing for people at any time in their life, when they don’t feel like they fit the ‘normal’ mould.

If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning your sexuality then this may be one of the many things that you worry about as a young person but for most it can be one of the biggest things that you may be worrying about as some people try to bury these feelings.

You may be ‘out’ which means that people know about your sexuality or you may not. You may just be out to some people and it may be something that is becoming worrying that people may find out. You may not know who to come out to or if you have to come out at all.

You may be having difficulties finding other people like you as sometimes these things aren’t discussed as openly as we would like them to be. You may have found that you are doing things that you wouldn’t usually do to repress these feelings. You may even be taking risks with your health to have a discreet sex life. You may feel like you don’t belong in the body you were born in.

Whatever it is that you are having difficulty with, do you want to talk to somebody openly without judgement knowing that it will be completely confidential?

If you would like to discuss anything from socialising with other gay people, coming out, what support is available if you are transgender to the practicalities of safe sex, then please feel free to get in touch with our Unique worker Lee Warren. These are just a few examples of what may be troubling you but the list is endless and your worries are your own. There are no silly questions, no worry is bigger or smaller than anyone else’s.

Unique can offer one to one advice and support. We also have a Facebook and Twitter pages, where we have interesting information continually updated on. Some of our Facebook friends use the group to connect to others. The group is private until you have been accepted as a friend so that is also as confidential as it can be. We also have members who meet regularly to go on outings and we are hoping to have enough people to start a regular peer support group too.

Please get in touch.
